Calorimeter calculation: Need more practice? Extra Practise: A. A chemistry student dissolves 4.51 grams of sodium hydroxide in 100.0 mL of water at 19.5°C (in a calorimeter cup). As the sodium hydroxide dissolves, the temperature of the surrounding water increases to 31.7°C. Determine the heat of solution of the sodium hydroxide in J/mol. B. A 2.50 g sample of zinc is heated, then placed in a calorimeter containing 65.0 g of water. Temperature of water increases from 20.00 Celsius to 22.50 Celsius. The specific heat of the zinc is 0.390 J/g oC. What was the initial temperature of the zinc metal samples.(we are going to assume that the final temp of the zinc and the water is the same. C. A 5.23 g sample of coal(assume pure carbon) is placed in a bomb calorimeter that has a specific heat of 4.53 kJ/oC. If the temperature changes from 21oC to 28oC, find the Hc for the coal.
